Study: Mountain states hit hardest by recession
December 15, 2009/
Utahns and others living in the Intermountain states who feel financially bruised, battered and downright discouraged by the nation’s recession have good reason to be out of sorts.
A new study by the Brookings Institution and the University of Nevada at Las Vegas found no multi-state region in the country has been harder hit by the economic crisis than the six Intermountain states.
"The sheer abruptness of the shift from hyper-growth early in the decade to a severe contraction in the last year," the report reads, "has spawned a sense of almost existential whiplash."
