Flathead Valley Community College President Jane Karas honored with CEO award

Bear Paw Development Corporation is a private non-profit organization created for the purpose of administering programs to help improve regional economic conditions in Hill, Blaine, Liberty, Chouteau and Phillips Counties and the Fort Belknap and Rocky Boy's Indian Reservations.

Flathead Valley Community College http://www.fvcc.edu President Jane Karas has been honored with the 2009 Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) Chief Executive Officer Award for the association’s Mountain Region. Karas was presented the award October 15 at the ACCT Community College Leadership Congress in San Francisco.

The annual award recognizes the most distinguished college CEOs in each of the association’s five regions. Each region has approximately 230 institutions. Karas was one of five community college presidents recognized with the award among approximately 1,200 community college presidents in the United States and Canada. The Mountain Region includes Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Wyoming, Alberta, Manitoba, Northwest Territory and Saskatchewan.

As noted in the nomination, FVCC Board of Trustees Chair John Engebretson credited Karas’ innovative leadership for producing “many benefits for our institution, its students and the greater community.”
