If you want to win, you have to choose to compete. – Summit at the University of Montana focuses on improving education system

The United States has an inferior educational system compared to other countries and there has been no sign of improvement in the last 40 years.

So says Craig Barrett, retired CEO and chairman of the board of the Intel Corp., who spoke Thursday at an education summit at the University of Montana.

The "millennial generation" is no more educated than their parents, a stark contrast to elsewhere in the world, he said. Thirty percent of University of Montana students are ill-prepared for college upon arrival, he said.

The dismal statistics continued: Last year in Missoula, 18 percent to 22 percent of high school students didn’t graduate. Statewide, 3,038 high school students didn’t graduate last year.
