Montana back to square one creating $140 million software for Medicaid system

The state is starting over on a $140 million effort to build new software to run Montana’s health insurance program for the poor.

The state had been seeking bids from computer companies to build software to manage Medicaid, the state and federal health insurance for people living in poverty.

Unisys is the same company that built an ill-fated computer system for the Department of Revenue, called POINTS. That system never worked correctly and was abandoned after costing the state an estimated $50 million for the system and lost productivity.
