Montana IBMer’s have a lot to be proud of! Lets win the World Community Grid challenge to support cancer, AIDS, influenza research, clean energy and several other critical research projects.

Friends and Family, would you be willing to join me in this World Community Grid challenge? you can download the grid software and your idle computer time will be used to solve very complex problems. There is no cost and it is really simple and secure. You know if IBM encourages our employees to participate then it is safe.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Fall in Montana is ever changing! But one thing hasn’t changed. We can all be proud of IBM and our commitment to making the world a better place. Today I am pleased to announce that IBM has made a major donation to the United Way of Yellowstone County for 2 after school programs. Discover Zone is a school/community partnership that delivers non-school time, skill-building activities to middle school students and C.A.R.E. (Children’s After-School Recreation & Education) Academy program is targeted at grades K-6. We have provided 25 laptops, donated software and a cash donation of $5000 for these programs. Watch for a public announcement of this grant.

In addition to this donation, you can help IBM Montana with our annual World Community Grid challenge. We don’t have a lot of us so we need everyone to participate!!!! Remember Friends and Family can join our team – even if they just love Montana but are not fortunate enough to live here. Pass this email along and invite them to join you.

As IBM celebrates the 5th Anniversary of World Community Grid, we have been invited to compete in a World Community Grid “TEAM CHALLENGE” among North American IBMers, taking place between November 1 – 30. The challenge is to see which IBM site team can increase its number of participants and log the largest increase in run-time hours on World Community Grid throughout the month. Will you help make sure the answer is “IBM Montana?!"

Your participation in one of IBM’s signature Corporate Citizenship programs will pay tribute to this valuable resource and the more than 280,000 YEARS of idle computer run-time its participants have collectively donated in its first five years to cancer, AIDS, influenza research, clean energy and several other critical projects. World Community Grid is truly a “smart solution” that benefits humanitarian research without any time intensive work on your part.

HERE’S WHAT TO DO:

* If you already participate in the World Community Grid, then copy and paste the web address below into a browser. All you need to do to join your team is click on the web address and then click on the join now button on the page that appears.

Encourage your colleagues, friends and family to help your team by registering on their home and work computers (Macs too!)

The success of World Community Grid rests on our ability to grow the number of individuals collectively contributing their unused computer time to this not-for-profit endeavor. It will be fun and a point of pride to track our progress and spirit against our worthy colleagues while gaining more participants among IBM employees, as well as our friends and family (works on any computer – PC or Mac). So if you have not already done so, please download World Community Grid, join our OTTO / Site location team and begin contributing idle PC power to valuable humanitarian research!
