DEQ Offers Free Energy Efficiency Construction Seminar in Missoula

Local experts from the building industry and the Montana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) will present a new home energy construction workshop in Missoula on Monday, November 9 at the Doubletree Hotel Edgewater at 100 Madison in the Blackfoot Room from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The session is free and open to the public.

The workshop will provide information on the latest techniques for building energy efficient /certified green homes. Presenters will explain how different components of a house – insulation, windows, framing, heating and ventilation systems – work together to provide an energy efficient home with good indoor air quality.

Information on the Montana Green Building and the ENERGY STAR programs will be provided. Besides energy conservation, these programs also consider: lot site preparation, resource and water efficiency, indoor air quality and homeowner education. The session will review the processes to attain various certifications, such as NorthWest ENERGY Star and the Montana Green Building program.

This session will also include information on the proposed new Montana Energy Code which should take effect in the spring of 2010. The new statewide code increases building’s energy efficiency by about 20 % and calls for additional air sealing. Montana and federal energy conservation tax credits will also be discussed.

Registration will begin at the door at 8:30 am. Reasonable accommodations will be made for persons with disabilities who wish to attend the session. For more information contact Paul Tschida at the DEQ by email at [email protected] or call 406-841-5232.
