Montana Superintendent Denise Juneau to Serve on Executive Board of Nation’s Largest Non-Profit Education Accrediting Organization

Superintendent of Public Instruction Denise Juneau http://www.opi.state.mt.us/ has been appointed to serve on
the Executive Board of Directors for the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education http://www.ncate.org/
(NCATE). The organization is an accrediting body for schools, colleges, and departments of education
recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Commission on Higher Education Accreditation.
As a member of the executive committee, Juneau will provide overall leadership to the organization.

“It is a great honor for Montana, and says a great deal about the quality and commitment of our
teachers to have our Superintendent serving on this board,” said Pete Donovan, who served as past
president of the National Association of State Directors of Teacher and Educator Certification and
currently administers the Montana Certification Standards and Practices Advisory Council of the
Board of Public Education. “NCATE helps improve of educator performance through quality teacher
preparation and accountability to children, their parents, and the public at-large."

The National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education is a non-profit, non-governmental
alliance of 33 national professional education and public organizations representing millions of
Americans who support quality teaching.

NCATE currently accredits 632 colleges of education with 78 more seeking accreditation. NCATE
accreditation provides recognition that the college of education has met national professional
standards for the preparation of teachers and other educators.

on important education issues facing each state and the nation as a whole,” said Juneau. “I look
forward to advocating for kids and teachers at a national level and sharing what’s working in
Montana public school classrooms to improve education on a national level.”

In addition to her appointment to the NCATE Executive Board, Superintendent Juneau was recently
awarded 2009 Educator of the Year by the National Indian Education Association.
