Turning Blue Into Green - The assumption that water is merely blue is no longer true. - Lotic LLC of Missoula, Montana
| November 2, 2009 |
The historic management and allocation of water rights was simple. A water right holder claimed water for a specific use and applied the water accordingly. Water during this period is easily captured by one word: blue.
Today, growing demands and exhausting water resources in the West are changing the definition of water. Increasing water scarcity is creating a market for new uses and water trading. It is also shifting the water paradigm from blue to green. Green represents monetary gains, efficiency, and how we use water moving forward.
At Lotic LLC http://www.loticwater.com , we have strategically positioned ourselves in this emerging water market to pursue these green opportunities. Lotic views water rights as assets and focuses on maximizing the value of water. This approach pertains not only to the monetary value, but also the agricultural value, the social value, the industrial value, and the conservation value of water.
The company’s services includes defining valid water rights for sale or purchase, brokering water transactions, constructing water right marketing plans, conducting water right valuations, and developing water banks.
Rather than taking a static view of water, the company focuses on the new market opportunities associated with change. The assumption that water is merely blue is no longer true. Historically water rights were used for drinking, agriculture, and industry. Today, the uses in water rights include mitigation for development, aquifer recharge, thermal control, energy creation, marketing, instream flows, wetlands, etc. Our business is turning blue into green.
