Jim Markel of Red Oxx touts benefits of small-business expo-type events
When Jim Markel started his durable luggage manufacturing business, Red Oxx http://www.redoxx.com/, more than 20 years ago, he had a steep learning curve.
The former Marine said he needed to learn about manufacturing disciplines, financing, marketing and more.
"I went to a lot of events like this," said Markel, the lunch keynote speaker Wednesday at the Small Business Expo in the Holiday Inn. The statewide event was organized by the Montana Small Business Development Centers.
"You can get a lot of great information and the networking opportunities are great," Markel said. "In fact, I was at an event like this a few years ago and met a guy from UPS, told him about a problem I was having and it was fixed the next week."
