Montana Peace Prize goes to Greg "Three Cups of Tea" Mortenson. President Obama should give Nobel money to his organization.

The Nobel Peace Prize is an annual honor that confers a great deal of prestige – and more than a million dollars in prize money – on the recipient. But President Barack Obama, who was himself surprised to learn he would be given the award last week, hardly needs more international attention. And he has announced his intention to give the $1.4 million that comes with the Nobel Peace Prize to charity.

Here’s an idea: Give the money to fellow nominee Greg Mortenson.

Mortenson is a resident of Bozeman when he’s not building schools in Afghanistan and Pakistan. A mountain climber whose unsuccessful attempt to scale Pakistan’s K2 gave him a firsthand understanding of some the region’s challenges, Mortenson founded the Central Asia Institute https://www.ikat.org/ in 1993 with the commendable goal of building schools – and human relationships.
