Rocky Mountain Venture Capital Association asks for your support of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pension Committee recommendation on follow-on biologics.

The Honorable Michael Bennet
United States Senate
702 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510

Fax: (202) 228-5036

Dear Senator Bennet:

On behalf of the Rocky Mountain Venture Capital Association http://www.rockymountainvca.com/ , it is with pleasure that I write you to ask for your support of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pension Committee recommendation on follow-on biologics.

A responsible pathway for the approval of follow-on biologics delicately balances the need to reduce costs and increase access with the need to maintain the highest standards for patient safety and provide the incentives necessary to promote innovation that leads to new therapies and cures for patients. The Senate HELP Committee by a vote of 16-7 and the House Energy & Commerce Committee 47-11 attached matching amendments to the health care reform package that effectively establishes that pathway.

For any industry requiring vast amounts of financial backing to prosper sufficient patent and market protections must be in place for innovative producers. In particular, I urge your willingness to listen to the needs of the biotechnology and biomedical industry and their financial backers.

I ask that you continue to remain a strong advocate for our industry and support the recommendation of the Senate HELP Committee on follow-on biologics once it is introduced into the full Senate.

Sincerely,

Nanette Schunk
