Leath sees Montana State University as economic engine for state

Steven Leath, one of three finalists seeking to become Montana State University’s next president, said Monday that MSU could become “the economic development engine for the state.”

Leath, 52, vice president of research for the North Carolina University system, spoke at a public forum to about 150 professors, students, dean, staff and community members at the MSU Foundation.

If he became president of MSU, Leath said his vision would be to make the Bozeman campus one of the nation’s best values in education, a place where students could graduate with little debt, and a university that generated high-tech jobs that would benefit the entire state.
