Hoku Pocatello plant gets foreign trade subzone status

Hawaii-based polysilicon maker Hoku Materials received a competitive advantage from the U.S. Department of Commerce this week, with the agency’s Aug. 17 announcement that it had granted the company foreign-trade subzone status.

Under the ruling, Hoku won’t have to pay customs duties on foreign-sourced raw materials, provided they are “destined for export overseas as components of finished polysilicon,” according to a news release from the company.
