Bees, ballons used to track greenhouse gases in Montana

Government researchers in Bozeman are using helium balloons and bees to determine whether the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide can be stored underground without leaking.

Carbon dioxide is emitted in large volumes by power plants and other sources from which the gas could potentially be captured before entering the atmosphere. Storing that gas underground is considered one of the most promising ways to curb global warming – if the carbon dioxide doesn’t leak.
