Boost in VISTAs benefits Montana

This year, the largest number of Volunteers in Service to America ever are serving Montana. Last week, 105 new VISTAs were sworn in during a ceremony at the Capitol in Helena to join 35 others who started in January, according to information from the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services.

The department, which is responsible for a wide range of programs assisting children, families and senior citizens, expects to have 29 of those VISTAs this year.

"They will be working on projects such as building community partnerships, establishing individual development account programs, fighting hunger and homelessness, and improving access to health care," said Vicki Turner, director of the DPHHS Prevention Resource Center in Helena. They will serve all over the state in big towns like Great Falls and Missoula and in smaller communities like Sidney and Livingston.
