Kalispell, Montana’s Semitool Inc. Teams With Zinc Air to Develop Flow Batteries

Semitool, Inc. http://www.semitool.com/ , a global leader in electrochemical processing technology for the semiconductor and related industries, today announced it has engaged with Zinc Air, Inc. to pursue development of a suite of energy storage products based upon Electrochemical Flow Batteries, also called Redox Cells. Flow batteries are considered critical elements in the expansion and large-scale adoption of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power.

Kevin Witt, Semitool’s director of Disruptive Technology, said, "The technology behind flow batteries is a natural extension of Semitool’s core competency in electrochemical processing and plating technology. Our ability to bring the improved electroplating quality and reduced operational costs offered by our Raider Tools should position us strategically for the development and production of efficient flow batteries."
