Insitu’s growth takes off in Bingen, Washington

Few people could be more surprised at the rapid growth of Klickitat County’s robotic airplane maker, Insitu http://www.insitu.com/ , than its chief executive officer, Steve Sliwa.
The company has grown from four employees when it was founded in 1994, to six when Sliwa joined in 2001, to about 30 in 2004 to 360 employees in July 2008 when Boeing announced it was going to acquire Insitu as a wholly owned subsidiary.
As of Monday, the Bingen, Washington-based company has 657 employees. Bingen, meanwhile, has 685 residents.
