Tourism grant program good fit for southwest Montana

Calling all groups needing "bricks and mortar" money to improve or create tourist attractions: state government is here to help.

The Montana Department of Commerce announced Monday that it has $300,000 available this year for tourism infrastructure projects. Both nonprofits and local governments are eligible.

The minimum grant amount is $20,000, and the maximum is the whole pot. The deadline to apply is Aug. 3, and the required match is half the grant amount requested — in hard dollars only, not in-kind contributions.

Projects funded over the past decade closely resemble a number of causes around here in need of cash: historic theaters, art museums, indoor and outdoor sports complexes, tourist trains, amphitheaters — they’re all among past recipients.
