Is the Venture Capital Model Broken?

I am seeing a lot of articles related to this topic. Many point to the possibility that there are far too many venture capital firms, chasing too few quality investments. Other comments cry foul at the revenue model for VC funds, a lack of transparency for those funds that have public capital and anguish from entrepreneurs with regard to the tightening of terms in VC deals. I don’t have a problem with the word ‘broken’ but I am concerned that some pundits are using it as ‘broken, and can’t be fixed’.
