Plum Creek – growing value from exceptional resources

As you may have heard, Plum Creek has had to make some difficult decisions in the past few months. Markets for lumber products have reached lows unheard of in recent times. As a result, we have permanently closed two sawmills (our Ksanka mill in Fortine and Pablo facility near Polson) and, as of June 26, have indefinitely curtailed production at the Evergreen stud mill and Remanufacturing facility.

We recognize these changes affect not only our dedicated employees but also our contract loggers and vendors throughout northwest Montana. Earlier this year, during temporary curtailments at two of our sawmills, we kept employees “job attached” to Plum Creek, enabling them to receive unemployment compensation without job hunting, and kept them on full company benefits. We have helped our employees who are laid off adjust to these difficult times by providing severance pay and outplacement assistance.
