2009 Washington Governor’s Best Practice Awards nomination deadline

The nomination deadline is July 27.

These annual awards bring statewide public and professional recognition to projects and programs that have achieved positive results in the last two to three years and have made significant contributions to the field of workforce and economic development.

Award winners will be recognized at the 2009 Workforce and Economic Development Conference, October 29 at Spokane’s historic Davenport Hotel.

for Workforce and Economic Development

Request for Nominations

NOMINATIONS DUE JULY 27, 2009

You are invited to submitt nominations highlighting achievements, success stories, partnerships, and leaders in the field of economic and workforce development in Washington communities, particularly achievements that create family-wage jobs, encourage innovation, and promote an environmentally healthy economy.

The Annual Governor’s Award for Best Practices in Workforce and Economic Development recognizes individuals, organizations, communities, regions, and agencies that have achieved excellence in their field. The awards program brings statewide public and professional recognition to projects and programs that have achieved positive results in the last two to three years and have made significant contributions to the field of workforce and economic development.

The following will be considered as judging criteria:


The nominee(s) must have reached an outstanding level of achievement.


The contribution must be of significant value to the community.


The nominee(s) actions, contribution and/or service should set them apart from the current practice.


The nominee(s) involvement should have a positive effect on creating a vibrant and sustainable community.


The nominee(s) action must have a positive economic impact on the community that can be supported quantitatively with data.
OMINATION FORMAT & SUBMITTAL INFORMATION

FORMAT

Nominations must state clearly why a nominee should be considered for an award. A successful nomination will include:


Title of project or activity.


Address, telephone, and email of the lead person involved in the nominated project/activity and person submitting nomination.


One to two sentences summarizing project or activity.


One paragraph description of the need and context for the project or activity.


Two paragraphs describing the activities that addressed the need, and the project’s budget and operating timeframe.


Detailed description of the impact, cost and effectiveness of the project or activity, and how it met the needs of the local community. This section MUST include quantifiable results. Only projects or activities which are able to demonstrate their effectiveness will be considered for awards.


A short concluding statement on why you believe this project should receive recognition.

The above must be limited to three pages with a minimum of 11 point type. In addition, the application must include:


A list of the leading individual(s) or organization(s) that should receive special recognition for their role in the project or activity. Please provide name, title, role, address and phone number. Please identify names to go on any award recognition materials. Note: the number of names may be limited, depending on space constraints.


A list of local media and contact information, including email addresses.

The application may include supporting materials such as letters or articles providing additional information to the awards committee that assist in understanding the significance to the community of the person or program.
The Governor’s Best Practices Awards will be presented at the 2009 Workforce and Economic Development Conference, October 29 at Spokane’s historic Davenport Hotel.

All nominations must arrive by e-mail, by 5 p.m. July 27, 2009. Late nominations will not be considered.
