King of the rails: Refurbished Anaconda, Montana short-line thrills newbies and train aficionados

All aboard! Saturday morning, the Copper King Express http://www.copperkingexpress.com/ purred and wailed its way to the Butte Depot.

The blaze of yellow and black opened its doors to the crowd waiting in a patch of sun on South Arizona Street. When the train scooped in its first riders of the season, Bob Douglas of New Jersey, Mary Lou Fitzpatrick from Butte, and Suzie Purple of Helena all hopped on board.

“My last ride was in ’63,” said Purple.
