Funding education vital for Montana’s future – Exercise your right and voice your opinion by casting your ballots Tuesday.

Helena voters on Tuesday will decide whether public education is important enough to raise their taxes an average of just over $20 a year, or if the school district needs to tighten its belt even further amidst this recession.

The Helena School District has put forth an annual operations levy to the public, seeking approval for an infusion of $461,000 to stave off deeper cuts in the general fund.

The district is already facing a $1 million shortfall, and a story in Sunday’s Independent Record outlined how the district will go about making those cuts.
