Glacier National Park will celebrate its centennial in 2010.

Superintendent Chas Cartwright wants designation of most of the park as wilderness to be part of that celebration.

Diverse group pushes for more Montana wilderness

A wide-ranging and diverse group of western Montanans have called on Congress to push forward the state’s first wilderness bill in nearly three decades.

“Times have changed,” said Edwin Fields, a Flathead Valley building contractor. “All of us agree that protecting Montana’s last wild places as wilderness is good for business in the state, and a priceless legacy for our children. After 26 years, now is the time to act.”

Glacier super pushes for wilderness designation

Glacier National Park’s superintendent says he wants most of the Montana park to be designated as wilderness as part of its centennial celebration in 2010.

Speaking at a forum at City Club Missoula http://www.cityclubmissoula.org Monday, Chas Cartwright says he disagrees with those who fear the designation would severely restrict the way the land can be used.
