Kal Penn alive, kicking and challenging stereotypes at Montana State Leadership Institute presentation

After his character committed suicide this week on the TV show “House,” actor Kal Penn said he got text messages from two friends, asking if he was really dead.

“You thought I really died and you texted me?” Penn replied, incredulous.

The strange ways that we mix up Hollywood and reality was one of Penn’s themes Wednesday night when he spoke at Montana State University on pop culture, politics and race. A large crowd, estimated by organizers at 1,000, gave a warm reception to the rising young actor, who once made People magazine’s list of 50 most eligible bachelors.
