Missoula Children’s Theater director Jim Caron honored as Peacemaker of the Year for helping kids discover themselves

Jim Caron and the Missoula Children’s Theater http://www.mctinc.org/ “develops self-esteem, leadership and a sense of community” in thousands of children across the world every year.

Jim Caron probably looked like any other hippie in town when he drove into Missoula, Montana in his Volkswagen bus early one morning in 1970.

The peace signs plastered all over the bus certainly wouldn’t have been out of place here. Nor would Caron’s look – mounds of uncombed hair, a large unkempt beard and clothes that would have clued folks in that he wasn’t in town to sell insurance.

Arriving in the wee hours, Caron and his wife Nancy, on their way from Chicago to a friend’s wedding in Oregon, stayed the night.

The next day, Caron found the nearest barber – he wanted to look presentable for the wedding – and also took a look around the town and its university.
