I see that Idaho is trying to attract foreign investment. How exactly does that help our economy?

Foreign investment comes in a few shapes and sizes. One example is when a foreign company buys a company in Idaho for strategic reasons, such as costs savings or to be closer to their market. That provides stability for existing jobs and could mean additional hiring.

An example of that was the purchase of the old Swiss Village Cheese plant in Nampa in 1999 by French firm Sorrento Lactalis. The company has invested more than $100 million in updating all aspects of the operation and is now building a new $50 million whey processing facility, which will add up to 50 manufacturing jobs.
