Officials discuss Bitterroot Valley college plan

In an informational session Tuesday, representatives of the Montana University System presented Ravalli County commissioners and the public with an outline of a new plan for a local two-year school.

The plan calls for a combination of comprehensive, cost effective University of Montana services with local programming offered through innovative two-year education models.

The meeting was the first public discussion of a two-year school for the Bitterroot Valley since the Montana Legislature voted down a locally driven community college proposal last month. Despite the fact that these same university system representatives had urged lawmakers to reject the plan for the Bitterroot Valley Community College http://bvcc-edu.org/ (BVCC), collaboration between the two camps and flexibility in programming were two of the session’s key messages.
