Montana’s teens belong in high school

Butte High School officials have promised to redouble efforts to reduce truancy in the wake of reports that 53 students who started last fall are now unaccounted for.

Maybe they need to take a lesson from a recent TV commercial and put the package delivery folks on the job. They track ’em down pronto and within minutes the errant student is back in class.

Too bad it’s not that quick and easy in the real world.

Education standards must rise, Apostle says

The education system in the United States fails to prepare some students for college, has low standards of success, is slow to meet 21st century demands and lacks accountability.

This from Missoula’s leaders in education.

“We need to increase quality,” said Alex Apostle, superintendent of Missoula County Public Schools. “The standards are too low.”
