Nonprofit RAMP gives a lift to those in need

RAMP is a nonprofit based in Missoula that puts volunteer tradesmen on the job to install access ramps and lifts for low-income people.

With an entrance that climbs five steps and banks a right-hand turn, Margaret Roth knew she needed help to get her husband, Forest, and his wheelchair in and out of their trailer house off Skalkaho Pass Road.

Living on a fixed income, she also knew she couldn’t afford to put in a wheelchair-accessible entry. Then she heard about RAMP http://www.rampnw.org , or Regional Access Mobility Program of Montana.

“I just can’t pack him up and down the stairs and his legs are so weak that basically he’s been house bound,” Margaret said. “When I heard about [RAMP] from a social worker, I called right away and we went to work on the paperwork.”
