Free business workshop offered that day, too

The second annual Butte’s In Business dinner, a progress report on Butte’s economy, will be Tuesday, April 16, at the Copper King Hotel on
Harrison Avenue.

By the Standard Staff

The event is sponsored by the Butte-Silver Bow Chamber of Commerce, the Butte Local Development Corp. and The Montana Standard.

Last year, more than 700 attended the dinner celebrat ing the positive economic forces at work in Butte. Gov. Judy Martz addressed the group in a
keynote speech.

This year, the day will focus on a host of small busi ness workshops and ways to help small businesses grow.
Also, displays are planned by local firms during a busi ness fair, for visitors to become familiar with oppor tunities in the Mining City.

Finally, the dinner’s keynote speaker will be Mayor John Antaramain of Kenosha, Wis. Antaramain faced several economic chal lenges similar to
Butte’s and the city has overcome most of them. He’s been called a dynamic, motivating speaker.
Butte-Silver Bow Chief Executive Judy Jacobson will speak as well, and Montana Tech Athletic Director Bob Green will be the emcee.

The day starts off with several free workshops for small business operators.
John Donovan, regional director of the Small Business Development Center in Butte, will start the lecture series at 10 a.m., speaking on ways the
center can help people start or expand their business.

Jack Reece, the director of the Small Business Institute at the University of Montana School of Business Administration, will talk at 11 a.m. on what
happens after a business is running, but then the wheels fall off.

At 1 p.m., Tom Eaglehoff of smalltownmarketing.com of Bozeman, will speak on how to market a small business .
Other workshops may be scheduled later in the day as well.

A business fair will run from 2 to 6 p.m. A no-host cocktail hour will begin at 6 p.m. and dinner will be at 7.

Tickets for the dinner are $15 and available from the Chamber of Commerce. If interested in placing a booth at the business fair, call the chamber
at 723-3177.
