The Montana Legacy Project Groups prepare to receive transfer of timberland

Nearly 10 months ahead of schedule, two public land advocacy groups are taking delivery of more than 100,000 acres from Plum Creek Timber Co.

On Tuesday, the title to the acreage will be transferred from Plum Creek Timber Co. to the Nature Conservancy, for joint management with the Trust for Public Lands.

Purchased with $250 million in federal funds, the land exchange is the second phase of the Montana Legacy Project http://www.themontanalegacyproject.org/ .
The 111,740 acres of timberland around Missoula, will eventually be managed by the U.S. Forest Service.
