SBA Ill-Equipped to Handle Obama Stimulus Funds

As the smoke clears on President Obama’s economic stimulus plan, the Small Business Administration is emerging as one of the winners. That’s both good and potentially disastrous.

It’s good because the SBA already has programs in place that can get aid to small firms quickly. It’s potentially disastrous because the president obviously has no idea how badly the agency was gutted during the Bush years.

Venture Capitalists Succeed in Buying Legislation and Top Spot at SBA

The National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) and some of the wealthiest venture capitalists in America have set their sights on taking over federal small business contracting programs. The NVCA and its members have contributed millions of dollars to key members of Congress and President Barack Obama.

According to MAPLight.org, the venture capital industry has contributed over $3.2 million to key members of Congress, including $1.2 million to President Obama alone. Millions more in contributions from individual venture capitalists are difficult if not impossible to track. (http://maplight.org/map/us/interest/F2500)
