The Western Governors’ Association and U.S. Department of Energy launch the Western Renewable Energy Zones Project (WREZ)

The Western Governors’ Association http://www.westgov.org/ and U.S. Department of Energy launched the Western Renewable Energy Zones Project in May 2008. Utilizing those areas in the West with vast renewable resources to expedite the development and delivery of clean and renewable energy is the central goal of the WREZ project. Participating in the project are 11 states, two Canadian provinces, and areas in Mexico that are part of the Western Interconnection.

Public Comments Sought on WREZ Maps and Data
February 2 – March 2, 2009

Public comments are being sought on several draft documents and maps developed by the Western Renewable Energy Zones’ project. The WGA and U.S. Department of Energy have used a stakeholder-based process to identify areas with vast, concentrated and developable renewable energy resources and with low land development conflicts.
