REC Silicon looking at $1Billion "clean coal" power plant in Butte, Montana
January 31, 2009/
Officials from REC Silicon http://www.recgroup.com/ , a Norwegian company that employs 300 people at its Butte silane manufacturing plant, spent Thursday canvassing Capitol Hill in an attempt drum up support for a "clean coal" power plant in Butte.
"We’re not sure if this thing has legs yet or not," said Lon Topaz, Energy Resource Manager for REC. "It’s a long shot." The long odds didn’t keep Topaz from Washington, D.C., however. He arrived with other company representatives just after the U.S. House of Representatives passed the economic stimulus package, which will head to the Senate next week.
