UM scientist and Nobel winner, Dr. Steven Running endorses Obama’s greenhouse gas initiative; it’s not too late to act.

While some scientists warn we’ve already done irreversible climate damage with our car emissions, that’s no reason to give up on making cars better.

So says Steve Running http://www.cfc.umt.edu/PersonnelDetail.aspx?id=1139 , University of Montana forestry professor and Nobel Prize laureate for global warming research.

“If you argue it’s too late, you’re admitting we’re going to go over this climate cliff so we’re basically not going to try anything,” Running said Monday. “The next sentence would have to be: ‘We’re just doomed.’ Not attempting to respond n that’s a fairly dangerous attitude to have.”

Report: Some climate damage already irreversible

Many damaging effects of climate change are already basically irreversible, a team of international researchers declared Monday, warning that even if carbon emissions can somehow be halted temperatures around the globe will remain high until at least the year 3000.
