Great Lakes Airlines’ service to rural Montana communities causing unexpected (very positive) results

Passenger boardings at the Lewistown Municipal Airport are growing at such a rate that it is impacting the airport, according to Curtis Hershberger, Airport Board chairman.

Hershberger, in an interview Thursday, said, “These are good problems to have because that is what the airport is here to do – “ serve the public. But we have to address these issues and be ready for the future.”

Because Great Lakes Airlines is boarding so many more passengers than the previous carrier, Big Sky Airways, the Lewistown airport needs an expanded parking lot, a remodeled terminal, a new door on the large hangar, and airport management needs to hire another employee, Hershberger said.
