Some firms find smooth transition from intern to full-time hire
When Kristen Prinke couldn’t find a job in her field, she tried the next best thing: a paid internship at a company that was expanding.
Now, 16 months later, Prinke, 24, has a full-time job in marketing at Leapfrog Online in Evanston. "It’s a great way to get your foot in the door and show them what you can do," she said.
Meanwhile, Leapfrog got the advantage of trying out an entry-level worker before extending a job offer, said Amy Weir, the company’s director of human resources. By hiring someone young, the company saved money and got to train Prinke its own way.
