Back when railroads were the acme of high technology, Montana enjoyed a boom economy.

A century and a half later, the state may see another boom as the United States braces to restore some of the damage done in the treasure-hunting days. While a lot of the anticipated federal "restoration economy" stimulus may be aimed at low-tech roads, bridges and public infrastructure, Montana has its share of trickier projects that could benefit from local research wizardry.
