Montana Meth Project will pass review

We remain convinced that the Montana Meth Project http://www.montanameth.org/ is making real inroads against methamphetamine use by convincing young people not to take it “even once.”

Nonetheless, we understand why Gov. Brian Schweitzer said last week he wants to hear more about a study that contends the program has overstated its effectiveness. Schweitzer has earmarked $500,000 for the project in his budget proposal, but now he wants lawmakers and other decision makers to look at all sides before putting up more public money.

His administration has invited the study’s author, an Australian doctoral student in psychology named David Erceg-Hurn, to visit the Legislature, but Erceg-Hurn has declined, citing prior commitments and a lack of money to make the trip.
