Commerce Department Boosts Global Entrepreneurship Online Partnership Sharpens Competitiveness of High-growth Small and Medium-Sized Businesses

The U.S. Commerce Department’s International Trade Administration
announced the launch of its web 2.0 public-private partnership with the Ewing Marion Kauffman
Foundation: http://www.Entrepreneurship.gov and http://www.Entrepreneurship.org.

These websites assemble
entrepreneurial content from the federal government and private sector to promote worldwide
small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) growth. The Web-based cooperation began in
November 2007 as a comprehensive resource for global business owners, policymakers and
scholars, harnessing the unmatched economic, exporting and emerging market knowledge of the
Commerce Department for millions of entrepreneurs looking to start or expand their firms.

“Entrepreneurship is a universal vehicle for developing human capital, fostering economic
growth and driving prosperity across national and cultural boundaries,” said Commerce Assistant
Secretary for Market Access and Compliance David Bohigian. “This partnership provides
policymakers with models that demonstrate the power of entrepreneurship and gives SMEs the
tools to help them thrive in a global economy.”

The Web sites bring indispensable and accessible information to new and expanding SMEs,
helping them tackle the challenges of legal compliance, capital acquisition, intellectual property
rights and emerging market research. The online partnership also serves as a clearinghouse for
global events of entrepreneurial interest. Sponsoring governments, non-governmental
organizations, universities and related entrepreneur support groups can nominate events for
publication and promotion on the Web sites and in other related communications’ campaigns.
