All about the art – World-renowned sculptor, Laury Dizengremel falls in love with Montana

Laury Dizengremel snaps her head quickly from side to side when asked if carving is part of her creative process as a sculptor.

“I don’t ever carve,” she explains. “My process is always about adding rather than subtracting.

“I grow a shape from nothing.”

With that clarification, she’s off again, careening through a nonlinear narrative about her nontraditional college career, her days translating marketing materials for cosmetics companies in Paris, the 22 trips she has taken to China in the past seven years, and the adorable dogs that have adopted her and her fiance in their first months living in a house in the woods outside of Potomac.

Yet slowly, organically, the shape of a story emerges from the mishmash, a narrative that crisscrosses the globe, touches people famous and humble, and ultimately winds up in this most unexpected place.

This is the sculptor Laury Dizengremel: Turning the malleable earth into a portrait of her dream.
