Companies not cultivating future leaders

Just when you thought the news couldn’t get much worse in the business arena, a new report emerges showing that not only are many of today’s company leaders failing, but employers have actually gotten worse at developing future managers.

That means many companies may continue to have a tough time competing in a fast-paced global economy, leading to even more bad bottom-line results, experts say.

The report, by Development Dimensions International (DDI) (http://www.ddiworld.com), finds that even though 75 percent of the executives surveyed internationally said that "improving or leveraging talent" was a "top business priority," that effort "appears to be going nowhere fast."

"Leadership development is absolutely not keeping up with the demand," says Ann Howard, DDI’s chief scientist and co-author of the study, "Global Leadership Forecast."
