Montana State University brings on full-time staffer to search for energy savings

Montana State University has started a five-year, comprehensive energy conservation program that puts a full-time staffer on campus to search for, implement and maintain energy savings.

MSU contracted with Integrated Energy Solutions of Fort Collins, Colo., for the innovative program, which will be paid for with a percentage of the savings the campus realizes from conservation opportunities identified by the firm. The focus of the program is on behavioral and low-cost, practical ways to reduce energy use and instilling a culture of energy conservation among the campus community.

"This is another step we are taking toward meeting the governor’s 20×10 Initiative," said MSU President Geoff Gamble. "For the university, this is a low-risk contract with the potential for very high reward."
