The December issue of Outside magazine features Greg Mortenson, a co-founder of the Bozeman-based Central Asia Institute.

The article, which will be on newsstands Nov. 11, follows Mortenson on a chaotic trip through remote, mountainous areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan where the Central Asia Institute http://www.ikat.org/ has built schools.
The institute fosters community-based education, especially for girls, in an attempt to alleviate poverty and fight Islamic extremism. The institute supports, either fully or partially, 78 schools, 14 women's vocational centers and other public-works projects.
