State Superintendent Linda McCulloch Launches Warren Miller Freedom Foundation Project 10/15 in Missoula
| October 14, 2008 |
State Superintendent Linda McCulloch will welcome Warren Miller to Montana on October 15 at 11 a.m. in the CS Porter Middle School library.
The famous filmmaker is the inspiration behind the Warren Miller Freedom Foundation's Young Entrepreneurship Program, which will soon be launched in the Missoula County Public School District.
"This program inspires young adults to create successful businesses in their communities," said Superintendent McCulloch. "It is a fun and creative way to learn about economics!"
The Warren Miller Freedom Foundation http://www.warrenmiller.org/ was founded by Warren's wife, Laurie Miller. Her mission is to empower teens to think beyond traditional employment opportunities.
"Warren Miller is undeniably an entrepreneur," said Superintendent McCulloch. "By devoting a couple of hours a week to these classes, students in Missoula will learn how to become independent, ethical and financially responsible business owners."
The 10-week, after-school program provides hands-on learning experiences in a business-like environment. Each student's product will be targeted toward various markets to inspire creativity.
"I am so excited to pilot this program in Missoula," said Superintendent McCulloch. "Students will not only make their own money, they'll learn important life lessons along the way."
The program will be offered through a partnership between Superintendent Linda McCulloch, the Warren Miller Freedom Foundation, the Missoula County Public School District and the Flagship Program.
The Flagship Program is an after-school program whose mission is to enhance the social, academic and cultural achievement of Missoula students by creating opportunities for skill development.
