'Green jobs' won't be the answer for every economy

THE GOVERNOR IS a big believer in the power of green technology to create thousands of new, green jobs for her state, which she says "is better positioned than perhaps any other state in the nation to turn our country's need to preserve the environment and reduce energy costs into jobs and economic growth."
The governor of Washington? Actually, it was the governor of Michigan, who is seeking some relief for a state with the nation's highest unemployment rate, and who is not likely to find it in the ever-contracting automotive industry, which has long been its economic base.
