Young Montana scientists showcase their research at national competition

October 11, 2008View for printing

The high-level research from student scientists in Great Falls and Sunburst involving cutthroat trout and popcorn has earned them recognition at a national level — and they aren't even in high school yet.

Andy McKeever, a seventh-grader at East Middle School in Great Falls, and Rachel Ehlers and Stephanie Gliko, both eighth-graders in Sunburst, were three of the 300 national semifinalists in the 2008 Society for Science and the Public National Competition.

There were more than 7,500 nationwide entrants for the competition, which were narrowed down to the semifinalists. McKeever, Ehlers and Gliko were the only Montanans to advance to that round.
