Building America with John Ratzenberger (Cliff of "Cheers" and his Nuts Bolts and Thingamajigs Foundation) one tree house at a time at Bozeman's HATCHFest

The sound of hammers pounding on kid-size projects reverberated through the Boys and Girls Club gym Saturday as kids donned miniature orange aprons and oversize goggles and got to work.
They built coat racks, miniature goalposts and other wooden crafts with help from “Cheers” and Pixar animation celebrity John Ratzenberger as HATCHFest http://www.hatchfest.org/, an international nonprofit, film, music and technology festival branched out with Kid’s Day.
Ratzenberger played “Cheers” character Cliff Clavin, one of America’s best-known bar-flies, and more recently the character Mack in the movie “Cars.”
“We’re running out of skilled workers, because everybody bought into the myth that you have to go to college,” Ratzenberger said Saturday. “And that’s just not true.”

Ratzenberger’s foundation provides grants to teach young people about the industrial arts. And others, too, are trying to get kids tinkering. The Home Depot holds kids workshops the first Saturday of each month, and the Boys and Girls Club offers woodworking workshops in the schools.
