Sen. Baucus says plan includes $111 million for Montana

The U.S. Senate economic rescue plan approved by the Senate, 74-25, Wedneday night, includes Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus’ provision to pump an estimated $111 million in new funding into Montana rural counties.

The Secure Rural Schools provision included in the economic rescue package will double the amount of funding Montana’s timber dependent communities currently receive through the SRS program, which compensates county governments for lost revenue due to declining timber receipts.
